Looking for our Event Security/Policy Rulebook? Click here! The following is an outline of the general rules and the setup for the 2010 SBA season. Keep in mind that there may be rules that will come up sometime that are not included in the following statement. For questions on anything, please email sba@sbabasketball.com. Violations are subject to punishment, at the discretion of the commissioner.
• Standard in game rules apply (fouls, double dribble, traveling, timeouts, etc.).
• There are no defensive or offensive 3 second calls, or fouling out, however a player with two technical fouls is disqualified, or if they commit a serious offense at the lead official’s discretion.
• The game will consist of four 10 minute quarters, a 10 to 20 minute halftime, and as many 5 minute overtime periods as necessary to decide a winner.
• Each team is required to have at least 5 players on an active regular season roster, with a maximum of 7. The inactive roster may have up to 9 at any time. In the playoffs, you may have 4 on your active roster, with a maximum of 7.
• Teams must have 4 players on the floor at all times.
• Technical fouls are to be called by the leading scorer, the scoreboard operator if an official is not present.
• The scoreboard operator is considered the leading official, and will decide whether or not a basket counts if the ball enters the hoop after the buzzer. The others at the scorers table are to help the leading scorer decide debatable issues, and video replay is required if it is possible.
• Players may enter the game at a dead ball or at timeouts, entering at any other point in the game is a technical foul.
• If a player inbounds the ball past halfcourt while the shot clock is on, there will be one warning and the next violation will be a turnover to the other team.
• Complaints-see complaints page.
• The trade and signing deadline is at 12 a.m. following the All-Star game.
• The All-Star team will be decided by online voting, and will be announced by the league at a specified game. The top six vote getters from each conference (two at each position) will be selected to play. The top vote getter at each position will be awarded the starting spot. If a chosen player is unavailable for the game, a replacement will be selected by the commissioner.
• Playoff seeding will be done by the teams by teams with the highest winning percentage getting the high seeds in each conference. Three of the four teams will make the playoffs, with the first seed getting a bye through the first round. The team with the highest record in each matchup will have homecourt advantage. The two and three seeds will play each other in a wildcard matchup, which will be a best-of-three series. The winner will advance to play in the conference finals against the one seed, which will be a best-of-five series. The winner of the conference finals goes on to play the winner from the opposite conference, and this will decide the champion.
• All trades and signings are required to be approved by the league via email.
• Any other questions need to be sent to the league via email at sba@sbabaskeball.com.
